105. How Do I Pray?

The Power of Prayer: Connecting with God in Raw Authenticity

I know life can be overwhelming, especially with all our struggles. Not to mention the world’s on fire. Through A Holy Mess Podcast and our fantastic community, my goal is to empower, equip, and encourage you and maybe even make you laugh a little (if you pee your pants, bonus points! hahaha). Listen in on Episode 105, all about prayer.

Three Types of Prayer We’re Diving Into Today: Contending, Surrendering, and Breath

Contending prayer is about going all-in, passionately interceding, and pleading with God. The gloves are off, let’s go! This prayer is like presenting your case before a higher court when life throws curveballs. But remember, while contending is vital, it can sometimes intensify our anxiety. That's where the second type of prayer, surrendering, comes in. It's a prayer of surrender, acknowledging God's sovereignty, and allowing His will to be done.

Authenticity in prayer is also essential, remember, you’re not being graded in prayer. God already knows what's in our hearts, so there's no need for pretense. Raw and honest prayers are beautiful because they come from a place of vulnerability. Don't ever feel like you have to put on a facade when you talk to God. He embraces you just as you are and is eager to meet you right there in your mess.

I also want to introduce you to an ancient practice called breath prayer. It's a simple yet powerful way to connect with God. You breathe in and out while focusing on a meaningful phrase or name of God. It's a form of meditation that helps us engage with the divine through every breath. Breath prayer can bring peace, calmness, and connection in moments of anxiety or when words fail you.

Embracing Your Prayer Journey

Keep it simple. Find a space, a time, and a posture that helps you connect with God – whether that's kneeling, sitting, or even just saying a simple "Jesus, help." Make prayer a part of your daily routine. Start small, and gradually, you'll build a beautiful habit of communion with the Divine.

Embarking on the "Feel Better Journey"

For those who've been tuning into the podcast, you're probably familiar with my group coaching program, the "Feel Better Journey." This 10-week program involves small group coaching with me and is about journeying together with other Christians to feel better. If you're curious, reach out, and we can grab a virtual cup of coffee and chat more.
