Rewriting Our Stories, Together, In Community Through Group Coaching

The Feel Better Journey coaching program discusses the importance of understanding our life stories. In our busy world, we often need to remember to think about what has shaped our decisions and beliefs. But what if you could set aside time for contemplating and embracing the power of your story?

That is precisely where we start. The program gives us a framework to explore our past and present with a shared foundation of faith in Jesus. Our main goal is understanding and learning from our experiences, thoughts, and beliefs.

In 2022, I embarked on my first round of The Feel Better Journey and dug into the course material for a year. It perfectly complements attending AA meetings (Alcoholics Anonymous) to further my sobriety. I learned new things each time we met and had different experiences each round as I explored the lessons and discoveries while applying new practices to my daily life. Today, I'm still in The Feel Better Journey as a gift to myself. I gather virtually with others, and we navigate the ups and downs of our lives while applying the coaching framework.

From a young age, we learn how to interact with the world. Some patterns are helpful, but not all of them. Understanding when and how to navigate our inner worlds is a skill and an intentional process that can bring immense healing, self-awareness, and faith transformation. As we take on new perspectives, we shift our actions and stress management tactics. Sometimes, as adults, we neglect our emotional inner lives at the cost of our to-do lists (just me?) or the intense needs of those surrounding us. We are givers, servant leaders, empaths, and providers.

Slowly, I learned that the individuals in my life started to feel better as I began to feel better, and my household and company climate changed for the better. It turns out that we directly impact our family, friends, neighbors, and even the people we work with daily, and our emotions, thoughts, and the stories we tell ourselves matter greatly.

We can approach our challenges with kindness by engaging in faith-based inner work. Additionally, we learn to communicate with ourselves in a gentle, curious voice instead of a harsh, critical, ingrained voice. It is through this process we grow in self-awareness.

Today, I have evolving ways of coping with stress and the inevitable chaos of life. I am showing up for others in wholehearted ways and have a new language and lens to understand my inner world. Turns out there truly is peace for this anxious, overly responsible, nerdy child, and I'll bask it in every chance I get.
